For Cat - fake gold coin query

Hi Cat..

I just found this funky fake gold coin with the words AVAG CO BEPSIG -
guessing this is just gibberish, but since you know something about
ephemera I was wondering if you have any 411 on these? Googling wasn't
much help in this case.

Mike, of course you know I'm not Cat, but when reading your post I
realized I had heard of this a long, long time ago on a forum about
coin collecting. I tried in vain to locate the forum but I wasn't
successful.

However, I did find this link by googling:

I'm trying to recall what I remember from the forum I refered to above.
Offhand, I would say that the phrase is an ignorant attempt at Latin
and that the phrase became some popularly connected to fraudulent coins
in the mind of the public that manafactures began to include the phrase
on their novelty coins.

Does your coin have an Indian Head on it? Also is it metal or plastic?
One last question, did you get it from Mardi Gras?

Hi- just found this by googling- I was trying to find out what this
means, as I am buying these coins for a school carnival with this on
them. I'm buying mine from Oriental Trading Co. if that helps at all!
